Equality and rights central to the Welsh Language Commissioner’s work

The Welsh Language Commissioner has published a Strategic Equality Plan outlining her commitment to include and mainstream equality considerations into all aspects of her work.
The Welsh Language Commissioner, Meri Huws, said:
"Ombudsmen and Commissioners across Europe and the world are working to protect rights, and I am proud to follow in this tradition. I am fully committed to ensure that equality considerations are mainstreamed in our work.
“As an organisation, we are totally opposed to any discrimination on whatever basis. As an employer and as a body which communicates with external stakeholders, we will ensure that we treat people fairly and with respect."
The plan was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, and the Commissioner consulted with the public and key stakeholders on its content. This is the second Strategic Equality Plan to be prepared since the role of Welsh Language Commissioner was created by the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 and work commenced in April 2012.
