Place-names

The Welsh Language Commissioner is responsible for advising on the standard forms of Welsh place-names.

The Commissioner can give advice to individuals and organisations of all kinds, and has convened the Place-names Standardization Panel to provide expert advice and recommendations in this field. In forming its recommendations the panel will consider the meaning, history and etymology of place-names, as well as their usage. It also follows specific standardization guidelines.

To find the standard form of Welsh place-names email post@welshlanguagecommissioner.wales.
