The aim of the research was to collect qualitative evidence from businesses, to provide a snapshot of the use of the Welsh language by companies in the food and drink sector in Wales, and their reasons for using it.
A total of 11 qualitative face to face interviews were conducted with directors and owners of companies from the food and drink sector in Wales, who use the Welsh language as part of the company’s brand, through marketing or contact with their customers.
There was a strong feeling among a number companies that a Welsh and Welsh-language brand is of commercial advantage to them as it:
- makes the product stand out
- reinforces the company’s brand image
- secures support
- reinforces the local origin of the product.
