Health and social care

A lack of Welsh language provision in health and social care services has a damaging affect on the welfare of Welsh speakers, especially vulnerable users. The report on the first inquiry held by the Welsh Language Commissioner, ‘My language: My health’ showed that a lack of primary health services in the Welsh language can seriously affect an individual’s wellbeing.

In collecting evidence as part of that inquiry, the need for considerable improvements in Welsh language health and social care services was highlighted.

It is a priority for the Commissioner to try and to ensure that the health of Welsh speakers does not continue to suffer because of failings in Welsh language services.
