Economic development

Economic development is a high priority for all levels of government in Wales and the UK, and is a basis for all kinds of policy developments. Efforts to develop the economy can contribute to the growth of the Welsh language, for example by creating work opportunities for Welsh speakers in their communities. There is also evidence which shows that Welsh can support the economy’s growth in Wales, for example by giving manufacturers and retailers a unique selling point.

Highlighting the connection between economic development and the Welsh language’s growth, while ensuring that policies on the economy and Welsh support each other, is a priority for the Welsh Language Commissioner.
