Information for organisations

Our vision at the Welsh Language Commissioner is:

“A Wales where people can use the Welsh language in their everyday lives.”

The Welsh Language Commissioner ensures rights for people to use Welsh in many ways:

  • The public have a right to use Welsh without restrictions. If someone obstructs a person's freedom to speak Welsh, the Commissioner is able to investigate.

  • Public sector organisations in Wales have to provide a Welsh language service. This may be through Welsh language standards or schemes, depending on the particular organisation. Businesses and charities offer their Welsh language services on a voluntary basis.
