The statutory guidelines ‘Welsh Language Schemes – Their preparation and approval in accordance with the Welsh Language Act 1993’ were produced to advise organizations on the content of language schemes and how to implement them. The guidelines explain which matters organizations should consider and the types of action that should be taken to implement the Act’s principle of equality
For example, a scheme may explain how an organization will respond to phone calls, letters or emails from Welsh speakers. It may also describe how the Welsh language will be used on signs, forms and publications.
Occasionally, the Welsh Language Commissioner publishes advice to organizations who have language schemes to complement the statutory guidelines. These advice documents are intended to help organizations comply with the language scheme.
When public organizations with a language scheme become subject to the standards,
codes of practice will be published to assist them.
