A compliance notice is a notice given to organizations by the Welsh Language Commissioner which requires them to comply with one or more standards. The compliance notice will state the imposition day (or days) for each standard specified within it.
The meaning of ‘imposition day’ is the day from which an organization is required to comply with the standards, or the day from which an organization is required to comply with the standards in a particular way. The imposition day, or the earliest of the imposition days in a compliance notice, must come six months after the day on which the notice is given.
The Commissioner will consult with every organization before giving them a compliance notice.
Only if the Commissioner has given an organization a compliance notice and that compliance notice requires that organization to comply with the standard will that duty be in force.
