Time to set the standard – a portrayal of Welsh Language users’ experiences
The Welsh Language Commissioner’s Assurance Report 2015-16:
The Commissioner’s aim is to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language and to make it easier for people to use the language in their everyday lives.
This report is published to help organisations that provide public services to the people of Wales to develop an understanding of the reality of Welsh speakers’ experiences as they use those services. The Commissioner hopes that introducing her findings will motivate organisations to channel their efforts effectively to improve the experiences of Welsh language users.
The report describes the situation from the user’s perspective based on the findings of a series of mystery shopper and thematic surveys conducted during 2015-16. It reveals what opportunities and lack of opportunities were available to people who either have to or choose to use the Welsh language.
The report is published in accordance with Section 4 of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011.

A new measure; a new mind-set
The Welsh Language Commissioner’s Assurance Report for 2014-15
Published under section 4 of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011
The Welsh Language Commissioner has published her first assurance report. This report is based on a series of mystery shopper surveys and studies of the way organizations have been planning and delivering Welsh language services. The surveys were held between November 2014 and March 2015. This is the first in a series of annual assurance reports which will build a comprehensive picture over time of how public sector organizations use the Welsh language.
The assurance report highlights examples of success, and draws attention to organizations that have identified the need for providing services in Welsh and have planned purposefully to meet the demand.
The Commissioner added:
“By publishing an assurance report annually, we will give organizations the opportunity to consider good and innovative practices across Wales and look for new ways of planning and delivering services.”
